Create an automation with GrafAI

Describe the automation in a sentence or two. GrafAI plans the trigger, the emails and the waits, and can write the emails too; you pick the list or segment.

Updated 14 Oct 2026Open Automations in app

On the Automations page, GrafAI plans a flow from a short description: the trigger, the emails in order, the waits between them and, where useful, a tagging or notify-your-team step. It can also write the emails. You check the plan, then create the automation as a draft.

GrafAI picks the trigger from three options; on the canvas they show as Contact joins a list, Contact receives a tag or Contact joins a segment. If you want a flow that starts from a date, the website, an email activity or a custom event, change the trigger on the canvas.

Plan the automation

  1. Click Start on the Create with GrafAI card

The card sits under Start from scratch. It shows only while GrafAI is on for your account.
  2. Describe the automation

One or two sentences are enough, for example "welcome new subscribers with three emails over a week and end with an offer". Only your description is sent, never contact data.
  3. Choose the flow size

Standard (20 credits) plans a trigger, up to three emails and the waits between them, plus a tagging or notify-your-team step when you ask for one. Advanced (40 credits) plans up to six emails and more steps. The cost shows next to the choice.
  4. Click Plan automation

The plan is usually ready in under half a minute. Cancel while you wait returns your credits.
  5. Check the plan

The plan lists the trigger and each step. Plan again takes you back to the description step; the new plan uses the same price again.
  6. Decide who writes the emails

The option that names the number of emails in the plan, for example Also write the 3 emails with GrafAI, is ticked. Each email then costs the standard draft price (20 credits) and is written from the plan and your brand settings; the total shows on the button. Untick it and the emails are created empty. The plan follows the language you wrote your description in; emails GrafAI writes are in your interface language.
  7. Click Create automation

The draft opens on the canvas with its emails.

What you still do

GrafAI does not choose your data. On the canvas, pick the list, tag or segment for the trigger, the tag for a tagging step and the addresses for a notify-your-team step. Check every email in the editor; an empty email can still be written there with Create with GrafAI under Edit email. See Create an email with GrafAI.

A draft until you switch it on

The automation is created as a draft and sends nothing by itself. Switch it on when the source and the emails are ready.

Frequently asked questions

Does GrafAI write the emails in the automation?

Yes, if you want it to. When the plan is ready, an option such as Also write the 3 emails with GrafAI is ticked; GrafAI writes each email from the plan and your brand settings, at 20 credits per email. Untick it and the emails are created empty with the name, subject line and preview text from the plan.

Can the automation start sending on its own?

No. It is created as a draft. It sends only after you choose the list, tag or segment on the canvas and switch it on.

What does the advanced size add?

A longer flow. Standard plans up to 3 emails and 8 steps; advanced plans up to 6 emails and 12 steps. Both can add a tagging step and a notify-your-team step. Conditions and A/B splits are not planned; add them on the canvas.
