Click Add contact on Contacts to choose from four methods: Single contact, Copy & paste, From CSV file and From another list. This guide covers the three methods that do not use a CSV file. For file imports, see Import contacts from a file.

Single contact

  1. Fill in Email, First name and Last name

Email is the only required field.
  2. Choose a status

New contacts are Active by default. Choose Unsubscribed if you need to keep the contact on record without sending campaigns to them. MailGraf warns you when this status is selected.
  3. Add the contact to lists if you want

Pick one or more lists in Add to lists. Type a new name to create a list right there.
  4. Tick the permission box and click Add contact

To continue, tick I confirm I have permission to email these contacts. After adding the contact, MailGraf shows Contact added. and returns you to the contact list.

The Add contact button on a list's own page opens the same form with that list already chosen.

Copy & paste

If you have several email addresses, such as a column copied from a spreadsheet, paste the content into the Copy & paste tab. MailGraf extracts the valid addresses and shows how many it found. Choose a target list, confirm that you have permission and add the contacts. When the process finishes, you can see how many contacts were added, how many already existed and how many addresses were invalid.

From another list

On the From another list tab, pick a Source list and a Target list, then click Copy contacts. The contacts stay in both lists.

Permission is recorded as single opt-in

MailGraf records contacts added through these routes with your permission declaration as single opt-in. A double opt-in record exists only after the contact clicks a confirmation link. See Understand consent status and confirmation records.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I add the same address twice?

MailGraf does not create a duplicate. It reports that the contact already exists and adds them to any lists you selected.

Do I have to choose a list?

You do not need a list when adding one contact. Copy and paste and copying from another list both require a target list. You can create a new list from the picker.

How do I take a contact out of a list again?

On the profile, under Lists in the right-hand column, click the X next to the list name.
