Add a sending domain

Send from your own subdomain with four nameserver records, or let MailGraf create a sending domain for you.

Campaigns go out from a sending domain. You can delegate a subdomain you own to MailGraf, or let MailGraf create a managed domain for you with no DNS changes. With your own subdomain you add four nameserver records once; from then on MailGraf manages DKIM, SPF and DMARC for it.

Before you start

What you need

For your own domain: access to the DNS settings at your registrar or DNS provider, and a subdomain to send from, such as news.yourbrand.com. Your plan sets how many sender domains you can add; the count is shown at the top of the Senders page.

Delegate your own subdomain

  1. Open Settings > Senders and click Add domain

Sending domains and verified addresses live under Senders. The Add domain dialog opens with two tabs.
  2. Enter the subdomain on the Your own domain tab

Type a subdomain you own in Sending domain, for example news.yourbrand.com, and click Add. MailGraf opens the domain page.
  3. Add the four nameserver records at your DNS provider

The page lists them under Add these 4 nameserver records, each with a Type, Name and Value and a copy button. Create them at your registrar or DNS provider as NS records for that subdomain.
  4. Click Check verification

Until the records are found, the status reads Add DNS records, then Verifying. When it turns Ready, the domain appears in the from email list of every campaign.

Give DNS time

If the check fails right away, wait and run it again before changing anything. The domain page shows the date by which the setup must be completed. After that date the status becomes Expired; click Recreate setup to continue with the same records.

Let MailGraf create the domain

If you cannot change DNS records, use the MailGraf domain tab in the same dialog. Enter a short Brand name and click Add. MailGraf creates and manages the sending domain for you, with no DNS changes, and it is Ready straight away. The dialog shows the sending domain and an example sender address before you confirm.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use a subdomain?

Yes. You delegate a subdomain such as news.yourbrand.com. Your main domain and its existing records stay untouched.

How long does verification take?

DNS changes can take a while. Click Check verification again later; checking early does no harm.

Who maintains the DNS records?

MailGraf does. Once the subdomain is delegated, DKIM, SPF and DMARC are created and kept up to date for you.

Can I send from a single address without a domain?

You can verify one email address from the campaign Setup step and use it for test emails. Sending to your contacts needs a verified domain.
